Design fast-forwards video capture

Olympus Industrial, the world leader in remote visual inspection equipment, asked PDD to create a coherent visual brand language for its i-SPEED series of high-speed video cameras. These machines capture high-speed events and offer a slow-motion playback facility - ideal for industrial and business environments such as: research and development; testing and fault diagnosis; ballistics; the production of documentaries, commercials and music videos.
PDD wanted to develop a design that both unified the three components of the core system (camera, display unit and remote control) and reflected the sophistication of the technology. The final product also had to be robust enough for use on location and in industrial settings. Working closely with the Olympus team, PDD gained an understanding of the varying requirements of different end-users and optimised the ergonomics of the three main components. This approach allows novice and advanced users alike to configure each camera with its corresponding remote control or display unit, or via a connected PC. As soon as the power is on, the system is ready for the user to capture high-speed events at up to 33,000 frames per second.

The aluminium housing that visually integrates the three elements also has a very practical implication. Robust yet lightweight, the housing makes the i-SPEED series extremely portable and ideal for a wide range of environments. In addition, custom designed software allows the operator to analyse and enhance images, as well as calculate velocity and distance.

Designed by PDD, the attractive and consistent visual brand language of the i-SPEED series creates an excellent first impression that is reinforced and enhanced by the user experience.
