Wearables have once more caused a stir in the studio; with always more potential but also unexpected (and sometimes questionable) applications being revealed every day. Wearables still need to come of age, but one thing is certain: they make technology ever more personal. Take Google’s ‘smart lens’ technology, released earlier this year, which could make wearables less about you interacting with a worn device and more about the worn device serving you, seamlessly blending with your life.
Many of us still ponder about the why of wearables in day-to-day life, it is undeniable that they can bring a lot to the medical sector. The “smart lens” technology has now been licensed to pharma giant Novartis, which could bring a whole range of interesting products in the future. Sure, it will take some time to develop something that performs well and with a whole other level of interaction that isn’t too awkward for users. And will take some more time to get whatever products approved for sale in different places. But in the meantime, we’ll have to do with the idea of seeing people in the street taking selfies with their wristbands.
