Are you happy? Although happiness is something we all strive for, achieving it is actually quite difficult. Could we use design to help make our lives happier?

Definition: Happy – a feeling or showing pleasure or contentment.

Last month I emailed around our studios a fastcode article by Elizabeth Segran on;‘ How to intentionally design a happier life’. Segran talks about Paul Dolan, a professor at the London School of Economics, a government policy advisor, and one of the world’s leading happiness scholars (I wish I had that job). After decades of studying happiness, Dolan has developed a happiness formula based on a simple concept: pay more attention to the everyday experiences that give you pleasure and purpose and then do more of them.

Perhaps a perfect application (finally!) of wearable technology, would be something that could monitor our happiness levels, make us more aware of when we’re happy, and suggest ‘happiness’ activities. At the very least, let’s take some time on March 20th, #InternationalDayOfHappiness, to consider what makes us happy and then do more of those things. I’ll be meeting up with friends to down… sorry sip, Cucumber Martinis at my favourite cocktail bar in London! How would you design a happier life?
