PDD is delighted to announce that it is sponsoring a newly formed women’s football team based in the heart of trendy south London, Brixton. Coached by PDD’s multi-talented Senior Human Factors consultant Nick Choofon, we’re expecting to see big things from Brockwell United this year. Nick explains why…
Established in the summer of 2017, Brockwell United is the brain child of football fan Ximene Weaver-Gilbert. Ximene was looking for a local female football team and after not having much luck in her search she approached her husband and my school mate, Andrew Gilbert, for help. With the power of social media to raise awareness of their all-female football team, to their surprise they gathered a lot of interest and as a result Brockwell United was founded. Following multiple training sessions and with an increase of woman wanting to participate, I was asked to join the coaching team to assist on developing and upskilling the team to local league level.
I have always had a strong passion for playing football regularly and have previously coached an inner city school football team. I’ve also played football with Andrew since childhood and love the opportunity to coach Brockwell United every Tuesday night alongside him.
The team is open to women of all skills and abilities who are looking to play football and develop their skills in the game that I love. It’s great to work with people who want to try a new sport, learn and progress at a rate they didn’t expect and then play at a competitive level.
The coaching is a mix-up of training sessions to improve fitness, skill and preparation for matches. The team now compromises of twenty women and more are attending every week. Now with an incredible kit (big thanks to PDD sponsorship), training sessions are expected to increase to two hours in the summer and all eyes are on the local South London league. The team is raring to compete amongst other all-female teams out there!
