The world’s first waterproof marine VHF radio

When marine electronics company Navico wanted to redesign and extend its entire product range, it selected PDD as its partner.

The programme began with the key challenge: to design a waterproof marine VHF radio for the professional and consumer markets. As well as breaking new ground, this product needed to project a fresh image for Navico, raise the company profile and communicate reliability, quality and value.

The ‘Axis’ radio achieved new levels of performance and reliability in a lightweight handset that has gained the trust of sailing clubs, rescue services, defence contractors and well-known yachtsmen and women, including Pete Goss and Ellen MacArthur, both of whom used the ‘Axis’ on their solo circumnavigations.

PDD also collaborated with Navico on the innovative and adaptable Corus range of instruments, wheel and tiller pilots, hand-held controllers and chart table VHFs. Navico is now a well-established consumer and commercial navigation company worldwide.
