For the love of knit!

Well it’s official, the summer wardrobe has been packaged away, and the long boots and thick tights have made their wintery appearance! I can think of nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with my knitting and a massive mug of hot chocolate at the end of a cold commute home! So what better time to take a look at some of the wonderful ways the world of knit and hand craft had been translated at London Design Festival last year!

Defining Craft

I was inspired to write about the evolution of craft after a colleague observed, while I was using the CNC machine, that there was “no craft left in making things these days”. In this post I attempt to define what craft is, and look at our perceptions of crafted objects.

Joinery in the spotlight

Joins become the design rather than an invisible necessity of construction. From Butt, Dovetail, Tongue and Groove to Miter or Box joints… there are many ways of bringing wood together to create wonderful pieces of furniture. But we’ve noticed some new and interesting ways of constructing furniture creating everything from subtle details to bold and fun forms, all putting the joint in the spotlight.
