We are delighted to announce that our colleague Oliver Breit, is taking the helm as Sector Leader Industrial – Commercial at PDD.

Based in Hong Kong, Oliver has over 20 years experience leading design, innovation and product development programmes with global clients. Since joining PDD 7 years ago as Managing Director Asia, Oliver has applied his expertise in product development and unique insight into manufacturing to help our clients translate blue-sky innovations into commercially successful products.

Oliver’s German heritage infuses a sensibility for precision and detail into his work, with a focus on users, market relevance and technology. His life in Hong Kong also informs his approach to design, with a thorough understanding of how East-West influences can impact aesthetics, efficiencies and the pace of innovation.

In order to ensure a smooth product identification in an overly-saturated and highly-competitive market, it is crucial to offer customers an outstanding brand experience. Building a brand will systematically integrate and convey complex corporate concepts and successfully make your business stand out, creating therefore a higher value and career benefits. Here at PDD, we always start with product design and identification then introduce the whole process from product development to commercialisation and find the best balance between creativity and feasibility.

PDD Shanghai in collaboration with Process Group will host the Brand Innovation and Evolution event on 11th September 2018 from 1:30 p.m. at Xingguo Hotel B, No.78 Xingguo Road, Shanghai. Charles Ingrey-Senn 孙卓然 Principal – Design Innovation at PDD Asia will be present to cover the topic of Industrial Design and Innovation. Charles’ speech will be followed by a Q&A session.

We received the sad news on 28th July that Frank Height had passed away. Frank was Professor of Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art, London until 1986 and founder of the pioneering Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) course from which at least 20 PDD staff graduated over the years and became inspired into their current careers.

Frank was also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Chartered Society of Designers and the Royal Society of Arts. He won three Design Council awards; the Silver Medal XII Triennale, Milan; international design awards in Paris, Hanover and New York; the Institute of Packaging Award; and the Sir Misha Black Medal for services to design education. His professional work included the design of: furniture, domestic products, medical and office equipment and interiors.

We remember Frank warmly. He was an advocate of the integration of industrial design with research and engineering and passionate about cross-discipline innovation. His retirement lecture “The Redesign of Design” attended by Prince Charles, Ove Arup and many other leading figures was testimony to his influence and is fondly remembered by those of us involved. He was a gifted professor whose legacy is surely the generations of designers in prominent positions in business, education and research the world over.
